This writer wrote a Farewell to Arms in 1929. He was born in Oak Park Ohio in 1899, and aspired to be a journalist in highschool. He served in the Italian Army during World War 1 as an ambulance driver where he met a nurse. He was also faitally wounded in Italy, then in 1921 he moved to Paris and started to seriously write fiction, becoming involved in a community along with other famous writers (Fitzgerald,Picasso,etc). He also wrote other novels such as The Sun Will Rise in 1925, along with The Old Man and the Sea in 1951, where he won the Pultzier prize. He was also actively engaged with World War 2 and the Spanish Civil War, which he reported on. He also loved nature, hunting, and fishing. Despite his sucesses, he suffered from depression, alcoholism, and he had 4 wives at different times. He comitted suicide on July 2, 1961, at his home in Ketchum Ohio. His writing style was straightforward and short, unlike other authors at the time. His books captured the hearts of millions. He once said, "There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.".
